Everything in its place

One app for every riyal in and out

safi is built for how we actually handle money: accounts in different currencies, debts between family and friends, and bills that come round every month.

Every account, every currency

Each account keeps its own currency and its own balance, and the totals on Home are in your main currency alone, with nothing converted. When you move money between two accounts in different currencies, safi suggests today’s rate and shows its date, or you can type your own; either way it is fixed to that transfer and never enters a total.

Shared accounts

One trip, one account, a fair split

An account for a trip or a work float: everyone with you records what they paid, the account’s owner approves it, and at the end each person’s share shows, with what they’re owed or owe.

  • Join with a codePeople join with a code you send them.
  • Approved by the ownerEvery expense passes the account’s owner, and nothing enters the split before they approve it.
  • The splitEvery member sees what they paid and their share of the approved expenses, and what they’re owed or owe.

What is recorded inside a shared account is kept on the server so its members can read it. Nothing from your personal ledger goes with it.

«Say it»Soon

Say it, and safi fills it in

Instead of filling in fields, say the entry the way you’d tell a friend. safi pulls out the amount, the account and the category, and you check it before saving.

  • Your voice isn’t recordedSpeech becomes text; the sound is neither kept nor sent to us.
  • Nothing without youYou’re asked the first time, and nothing is written until you tap Save.
  • Or type itFor when speaking out loud doesn’t suit.
Friends

Your friend knows, and their ledger stays theirs

Link your account with friends on safi, and when you record a debt or a payment with one of them, they’re told. Nothing is written in their ledger unless they record it themselves.

  • By invite code onlyNobody can find you by your name, email or number.
  • A notice, nothing moreThey see the notice in safi when they open it, and choose “Record it” or “Not right”.
  • Gone after 180 daysOr as soon as either of you unlinks.
«Grow»

Understand investing on your own figures

Are you ready to invest? «Grow» reads your ledger and tells you, then shows what your saving could become over time. Ten short lessons explain the basics.

  • Am I ready? From your own ledger: an emergency fund, a saving rate, and debts.
  • Ten interactive lessonsShort cards, and questions that check you’ve got it.
  • Education, not adviceNo product is named, no wallet, no promised return.

Privacy first

Your ledger lives on your phone

Your accounts, transactions, balances and people are kept inside the app on your phone, and nothing leaves it except what you choose to share, in three cases:

Shared accountsWhat you record on a particular shared account, for its members to read.
Telling a friendA single transaction you chose to tell a linked friend about.
«Say it»The text of what you said, to pull out the amount and account. We don’t keep it.

Questions

Before you ask

Is my data safe?
Your ledger is kept on your phone, protected by the system’s file protection and by the app lock: a passcode and Face ID. The connection to the server is encrypted in transit.
Is my ledger uploaded to a server?
Your ledger is on your phone, and nothing leaves it but what you choose to share, in three cases: shared accounts, telling a friend about a particular transaction, and «Say it».
Why does the app ask for an account?
To recover the lock if you forget the code, and for shared accounts and friends. All it needs is your email and a code sent to it. No password.
Does it handle more than one currency?
Yes. Each account keeps its own currency and balance, and the totals on Home are in your main currency alone, with nothing converted. When you move money between two accounts in different currencies, safi suggests today’s rate and shows its date, or you can type your own; either way it is fixed to that transfer and never enters a total. The rates are public exchange rates fetched from our server, and nothing from your ledger is sent with the request.
I’m moving to a new phone. What do I do?
Take a backup from Settings, then import it on the new phone before recording anything there. Your ledger doesn’t travel on its own, because it is kept on your phone.
I use another app. Do I start from zero?
No. Import your transactions from a CSV file; the app has a ready template with the right columns.
Is «Grow» investment advice?
No. «Grow» is general education: it explains the basics and works on your figures, and it never names a product or promises a return.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone. Coming soon to the App Store.
